The Neumann Knights (10-1-4) defeated Babson College (4-4-) in the first round of the 2006 Cardinal Classic hosted by SUNY Plattsburgh in Plattsburgh, New York.
Babson scored the first and last goals of the evening but the Knights answered with three consecutive goals in the third period. Matt Ward sparked the Knights offense scoring his 10th goal of the season at 3:56 into the period. Neumann took the lead two minutes later on a Kyle Casey goal, his 12th of the season, with assists from Mark Van Vliet and Mike Hedden. Less than five minutes later, Brock Van Slyke scored the eventual game winner off a Mark Van Vliet pass giving Neumann a 3-1 lead.
Neumann will face SUNY Plattsburgh tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. in the championship.
