No. 7 Neumann College Ties SUNY Fredonia 5-5

Fredonia, NY - The Neumann College men's hockey team tied Fredonia State, 5-5, in non-conference action this evening at Steele Hall. With the tie, the Knights are now 8-1-4 overall, while the Devils move to 5-4-3.

The Devils took a 3-0 lead 6-miutes into the opening period. Neumann cut the deficit to two when Kaleigh Schrock scored his first of the season, short handed, off a pass from Mike Gooch.  Mark Van Vliet closed out the first period with a power play goal at 10:35 cutting the Devils lead to two. Mike Gooch and Neil Trimm were credited with the assist. In the first period the Knights out shot the Devils by a 15-10 margin.

The Devils went up 4-2 early in the second half however, Neumann's Mike Hedden responded with a power play goal, his 7th of the season, at 8:28 to keep things close.

In the third period Neumann tied the game at four after Neil Trimm slid one past Devils goaltender Pat Street off a Jesse Cole assist. Four minutes later Kaleigh Schrock gave Neumann their first lead of the night after combining with Tyler Rivers for the 5-4 lead.  However, Fredonia was able to capitalize on a 5 on 3 advantage to tie the game at five with just over three minutes left in the period.

The game remained tied throughout the remainder of the third period and overtime for the 5-5 final score. Neumann goaltender Mike Collichio made 29 saves and is now 6-1-4 on the season while Pat Street stopped 38 and is 3-4-3. The Knights outshot the Devils by a 43-34 margin. Neumann went 2-9 on the power play and Fredonia went 3-10.

The two teams meet again at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Steele Hall.
