Feb. 10, 2006

ASTON, PA - The Neumann Knights hosted the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College in the first of a two-game weekend series at the Ice Works Quad Rinks in Aston, PA. Despite the stellar efforts of senior goalie Lauren Voran, who had 35 saves in the conference match up, the Knights fell to the purple and gold 3-1.

Elmira controlled the first period of play scoring their first of three goals 9:08 into the game, when Elmira's Kayla Coady put one in the net for the Soaring Eagles. The Soaring Eagles added a second goal just 4:28 later, sending the Knights into the first intermission down 2-0.

Refusing to go down without a fight, Neumann's Bianca DeSantis came up big in the second period when she took a pass from Samantha May, and flicked it past Elmira's goalie Cara McGurry, scoring Neumann's first point of the night. Neumann continue to hang tough, holding off Elmira's scoring force until 16:25 into the period, when Coady was able to capitalize on a EU power-play advantage, notching her second goal of the night, and putting Elmira up 3-1 at the end of the second.

Neumann managed to slow down the Soaring Eagle's offense in the third period, as the Knights defense, led by Voran, allowed only eight shots in the last period of play. However, Neumann's offense was unable to connect, ending the conference match up 3-1 Elmira. Voran finished with 35 saves in 60:00 of action, while McGurry recorded 17 saves for Elmira.

Prior tonight's contest senior forward Lindsay Parsons was presented with a plaque commemorating her 100th career point. Parsons is the first Neumann Knight to reach the 100 point milestone.

The Knights return action tomorrow afternoon, when they will face off against the Soaring Eagles once again at 2:00 p.m.
