ASTON, PA- The Knights took on the Mighty Macs of Immaculata University (15-6, 9-4 PAC) Saturday afternoon in an attempt to add another win to their 10-12, 8-5 PAC record.
This PAC match-up was sure to be a tough game for the Knights, and it was sheer team effort that kept Neumann in this one. Kirsten Patton and Nellie Mixon teamed up to put the Knight on the scoreboard early in the half. Freshman Tara DiPhillipo did her part by adding 6 points for Neumann. Three-point sharp shooter Kylynn McNichol sunk 2 from behind the arc, and Kim Hinkle's quick feet and sharp passes gave Neumann some good opportunities. Immaculata's Nina Cammarano and Jessica Dantzler-Henry each had 9 points in the first half, followed by teammates Dominique Murray with 6 points and Meg Legere with 5 points. Despite the Knights' hard work, they ended the half trailing Immaculata, 38-33.
The Knights came into the second half charged and ready to go, but could not equal the Mighty Macs' power-house offense. Immaculata's offense was dominated by Dominique Murray, Meg Legere, Stephanie Stripe, and Kasey Hicks. Neumann didn't let the Mighty Mac's take complete control, though, and managed to come back from a 10 point deficit, when they tied it up 61-61 with 7:38 left on the clock. The Mighty Macs game plan was to shut down Patton, but she still managed to find the net for 23 of Neumann's 72 points.
Neumann continued to play good defense, but the Mighty Macs took advantage of turnovers and chiseled their way into a 9 point lead. The Knights put up a fight, but fell short of the Mighty Macs with a final score of 81-72.
Leading scorer for the Mighty Macs, Mary Kate Pawlowski, was out due to injury, but the Mighty Macs prevailed. "This is the best our team has played all season, and without Mary Kate, the whole team came together and just played really well," said Immaculata Head Coach Patty Canterino after the game. "The girls have worked really hard, and this was a huge win for us."
Immaculata moves on to the play-offs with a record of 16-6 overall, 10-4 PAC. Neumann now falls to 10-13 overall, 8-6 PAC. The Knights will return to action on Monday, February 13, when they will host PAC rival Gwynedd-Mercy College at 6:00p.m. in Bruder Gymnasium.
