ASTON, PA- The Neumann College Women's Ice Hockey team faced off against SUNY Cortland on Friday evening, and came out on top with a 4-2 win, making their record 11-7-2 overall and 5-3-1 in the conference. Lindsay Parsons and Carly Fitzsimmons led the way for the Knights, Parsons ending the game with one goal and two assists, and Fitzsimmons tallying up two goals.
Neumann started out its scoring 10:47 into the first period with a power play goal from Samantha May off a pass from Jenelle Marier. Marier then set up Lindsay Parsons to notch up another Knight goal two minutes later. The Knights ended the first period against the Red Dragons, 2-0.
In the second period of play, SUNY Cortland also took advantage of a power play opportunity to get on the scoreboard with a goal from Trish Silvestri, assisted by Lindsay Weinstein. The fighting Knights answered back, when Parsons set up teammate Carly Fitzsimmons for another power play goal. At the end of the second period, the Knights held their lead over Cortland, 3-1.
Five minutes into the third period, SUNY Cortland scored yet another power play goal when Dani Blanchard took a shot after being set up by teammates Judy Ellis and Heather Crowley. However, the Knights would not settle for a one goal lead. Parsons connected once more with Fitzsimmons to give Neumann their 4th and final goal of the game, making the final score 4-2 Neumann.
Lauren Voran played a tough 60 minutes in goal for the Knights, only allowing 2 goals and making 27 saves, while Cortland's Tiffany Wixom had 37 saves for the day.
The Knights will face the Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland again in their next conference match-up on Saturday, February 4th at 2:00 pm in Aston, PA.
