Aston, PA - Neumann fell short to Gwynedd-Mercy by one run in both games of a double-header on Sunday, April 9th losing 5-4 in the first game and 7-6 in the second.
In the first inning of play, James Jordan hit a grounder to second base allowing Steve Maloney to score Neumann's first run to tie it up with the Griffins at 1-1. The score remained tied until the bottom of the fourth when Kevin Ahern and Dave Thompson had hits and Scott Woods had an RBI to go up two runs over the Griffins.
The Knights scored again in the bottom of the fifth when Christopher Dascher had an RBI allowing James Jordan to score. In the top of the sixth, Gwynedd-Mercy's Chris Corkery scored off an RBI from Nick DiEnno making the score 4-2 in Neumann's favor.
The Griffins took control in the 7th inning scoring 3 runs and taking the lead by one run to win the game at 5-4. On the mound for the Knights, Phil Kelly pitched 6 innings allowing 8 hits, 5 runs, and had 3 strikeouts.
All but two innings were scoreless in this second of two games for the day. The Griffins owned the fourth inning scoring 7 runs, and the sixth inning belonged to the Knights with 6 runs.
In the fourth inning, Gwynedd-Mercy scored 7 runs, had 5 hits, had 6 RBI's, 3 errors, and 1 left on base. The Griffins' pitcher, Kevin Dronson, had 8 strikeouts, allowed 6 hits and 6 runs. In the sixth inning, Neumann scored 6 runs, had 4 hits, had 5 RBI's, had 1 error, and 2 left on base.
