The Neumann College women's tennis team defeated PAC rival, Eastern University 7-2 Tuesday, recording their first win of the season.
The Knights claimed no. 2-6 singles en route to the victory. However, one of those matches was decided in a third set tiebreaker.
At. no. 2, Ashley Miller of Neumann College defeated Eastern's Marie Shrefler 6-4, 6-1. Shamira Cannon earned her first win of the season 6-2, 6-3 at number 3. Allison Trout took care of fourth spot 6-1, 6-4; while Melinda Howell lost a 2-6 second set decision before defeating Jessica Bryan 10-6 in the tiebreaker at number 5. Newcomer Courtney Hartel earned her second win of the year 6-0, 6-0 at number 6.
The Knights' took two of three doubles matches at no. 1 and 3 to give the Knights their first victory of the season 7-2.
Neumann improved their overall record to 1-3, 1-2 PAC, while Eastern falls to 1-2, 1-2 PAC.
Neumann will return to action on Thursday when they will travel to University of the Sciences in Philadelphia for a 3:30 start.
