Haverford, Pa. - The Neumann College volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the Haverford College Tournament in Haverford, Pennsylvania.
The Knights defeated Susquehanna University 3-0 (30-16, 30-20, 30-24) but fell to Haverford 3-0 (30-22, 20-19, 20-13), opening the season with a 1-1 overall record.
In the victory over Susquehanna, Julia Tarloski (Malvern, Pa. /Bishop Shanahan) had a team-high 38 attempts and recorded 12 kills. Kristen Gregg-Verone (Folsom, Pa. /Cardinal O'Hara) accounted for four service aces, while Christina Walsh's (Downingtown, Pa. /Bishop Shanahan) defense produced 13 digs. Rachael Sokolovich (Eddystone, Pa. /Ridley) collected 12 kills and newcomer Emilee Gruse (Lafayette, In. /St. Mark's) added 7 kills in the win.
In the loss to Haverford, the Knights were led by Walsh who registered 11 digs and Sokolovich who posted 9 digs. Tarloski chipped in with 3 block solos but, it wasn't enough to over take the Delaware County rival in non-conference action.
The Knights will return to action on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. when they will face Catholic University in the final round of the tournament.
