RADNOR, Pa. -- Freshman Emilee Gruse (Lafayette, In. /St. Mark's) had a match-high 10 kills in just 15 attempts Thursday night as visiting Neumann used a team high 11 service aces to cruise past Cabrini 3-0 in a showdown of 2005 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference semifinalists.
Sophomore Julia Tarloski (Malvern, Pa. /Bishop Shanahan), a first-team all-conference pick last fall, contributed seven kills and led all players with six aces, four of them in the first game as Neumann (4-2, 2-0) set the tone early in a 30-17, 30-23, 30-26 victory.
Tarloski served six straight points in the opening game, three of them on aces, as the Knights grabbed a 16-9 lead and never looked back.
Cabrini (1-3, 0-2) rallied from a 9-2 deficit in the second game to make it close for awhile before Neumann pulled away again, in route to a 4-2, (2-0 PAC) mark on the season.
Neumann will return to action on Saturday, September 9 when they will travel to Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania to compete in the Baptist Bible Tournament.
