Aston, Pa-Neumann College (14-4, 8-1) defeated Wesley College (5-12, 3-7) 67-56, in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference game at the Bruder Gymnasium in Aston, Pa.
The Knights started off slow as the Wolverines took a 5-0 lead in the opening minutes of the half. However, the Knights rebounded quickly after Syreeta Brown drained a 3-pointer to give them the lead, in which they kept for the rest of the half. After that the Knights went on a tear and went on 11-0 scoring run to keep Wesley at bay.
The physical play of the Wolverines couldn't stop the Knights who picked up the pace late in the half slowing down Wesley with good team work on defense and moving the ball well on offense. However, with 6:00 left in the half Wesley started to cut the Knights demanding lead. Unfortunately they were set back due to costly fouls
Freshman Brittany Whetts was an animal on the boards in the first half bringing down 10 rebounds and scoring 9 points to help the Knights control the game as freshman Dominique Thompson sunk a 3-pointer with 1:15 left to end the scoring in the half. Neumann went into the locker room with a lead of 37-31.
In the start of the second half the Knights started off a little slow again, but they picked it up after costly fouls on the Wolverines worked to their advantage. The Knights controlled the second half by making key shots. Kim Hinkle hit back to back 3-pointers in the first 5 minutes of the second half giving the Knights a demanding lead, which they held for the rest of the game.
Freshmen Caitlin Agnew (13 points, 12 rebounds) and Brittany Whetts (14 points, 15 rebounds) were spectacular in today's game both earning a double - doubles, helping the Knights seal their victory.
Domonique Barrett led the Wolverines with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Teammates Patrica Miner and Michelle Mules also were leaders for Wesley with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Neumann will return to action with a PAC double-header Monday evening at Immaculata University. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM followed by the men at 8:00 PM.
