Aston, PA-On a shivering Friday night, #6 Neumann College men's ice hockey team successfully defeated #10 Hobart College 3-0.
Neumann College scored in the first period on a power play goal scored by Player of the Week Mike Hedden. Rookie of the Week Matt Ward and captain Neil Trimm were credited with the assist. There was no looking back from there for the Knights.
Neumann went up 2-0 in the second period, when Mark Van Vliet scored his fifteenth goal of the season at 12:52 off a pass from Ward and Mike Gooch.
Carrying the lead into the third period up two goals, the defense stood up strong and Mike Collichio was just a brick wall in between the pipes saving everything. The Knights scored a late goal in the third period of play. The goal was scored by Kyle Casey on an empty net at 18:15. That goal pretty much sealed the deal for the Knights in a 3-0 defining win against Hobart College.
Mike Collichio had 32 saves in sixty minutes of play to record the shut-out. This is Colichio's third shut-out of the year, and second consecutive shut-out.
Neumann will return to action at the Cooler in Geneva, NY at 4:00pm Saturday, January 27, 2007 for the second game of the weekend series.
