Geneva, NY- The Neumann College men's ice hockey team defeated Hobart College in a 4-3 thriller at the "Cooler" in Geneva, New York this evening. On a cold night with everything battling against the Knights, Neumann found a way to win the battle, sweeping the weekend series in a tough environment. The Knights' 15th win of the season marks the most wins by any team in program history.
The Knights fired first in the opening period of play when Mike Hedden found the net at 8:25. Hobart answered right back at 16:44 when Kris Golden scored to tie the game 1-1.
In the second period, Hedden struck again scoring a hard fought power play goal, his 22nd of the season, at 1:43. Hedden was assisted by Neil Trimm and Kyle Casey. Neumann scored its second goal of the period in the 8th minute of play, giving them a commanding 3-1 lead. The goal was scored at 8:54 by Mike Gooch and assisted by Neil Trimm and Donavon Hall. However, Hobart would not let up. The weekend's host found the net less than three minutes later making it a 3-2 game going into the second intermission.
Kyle Casey opened scoring in the third period putting the Knights up 4-2 after converting yet another Hedden pass at the 14:44 mark. Hobart managed to score one more before the night was complete but it was not enough to stop the Knights.
Neumann will be back in action on Friday, February 2, 2007 in Elmira, New York.
