Aston, Pa. - Neumann College (12-1-4, 4-0-3 ECAC West) skated circles around Utica College (5-4-2, 3-2-2 ECAC West) at the Ice Works Quad Arena in Aston, Pennsylvania recording a 7-1 win in men's ice hockey action this evening.
The Knights dominated all aspects of the ECAC West contest, from the passing to the hard hitting; Neumann played a fast paced, high intensity game tonight. Neumann out shot the Pioneers 35-23, went 4 for 12 on the power play, and received goals from seven different Knights in route to their fourth consecutive win.
National D-II/D-III points leader Neil Trimm strengthened his hold on the top spot recording a goal and three assist in tonight's win. He was assisted by Mike Gooch, who also had four points and Mike Hedden who had a goal and an assist. Starting goaltender Mike Collichio stopped 22 saves in net as the Knights extended their season unbeaten streak to 13.
Neumann's Mike Hedden opened the scoring with a power play goal four minutes into the opening period. Utica's Jared Allison responded with what would be the Pioneer's only goal of the night at 7:25. Mike Gooch scored what proved to be the game winner, just 34 second later. Neil Trimm and Hedded started the play before passing it on to Gooch who finished it off for the 2-1 first period lead.
In the second segment Neumann's Lincoln-Kaleigh Schrock put the Knights up 3-1 with a short handed goal 6:39 into the period. Kyle Casey extended the Knights lead to four after accepting a pass from Trimm and Hedden with 42 seconds left on the clock.
Neumann capitalized on Utica's frustration in the third period scoring three power play goals. The first was scored by Neil Trimm, the second by Jesse Cole and the third by freshman Mark Van Vliet giving Neumann the 7-1 advantage over their Head Coach's former team and mentor.
Neumann will host Utica again on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. to conclude the weekend series.
