BOX SCORE

The momentum of those who now own the longest unbeaten streak in the history of the men's ice hockey program at Neumann College was somewhat dulled tonight as the No. 6 Knights fell to No. 12 Utica College, 5-3, at the Ice Works Quad Rinks in Aston, Pa.

The Utica Pioneers scored first, added a goal in the second and two in the third in route to their first win over the Knights in their last three meetings. With the win Utica ends Neumann's 13-game unbeaten streak. The Pioneers improve to 6-4-2 overall and 4-2-2 in the ECAC West, while Neumann drops to 12-2-4, 4-1-3.

Neumann's Jesse Cole, Mike Gooch and Dayne Bihn scored one a piece for the Knights while Neil Trimm, Mike Hedden Brock Van Slyke, David Gooch and Mike Gooch all recorded assists. The Knights out shot Utica 33-23 but were unable to recover from two third period back to back Pioneer goals.

Utica went up 2-0 in the first period due to the efforts of Kevin Krogol, who was the lone scorer for the Pioneers in the opening 20 minutes of play. The senior forward found the 5-hole for his first goal of the night and added a second just as a Neumann power-play expired for the 2-0 lead.

The Knights answered with two back to back goals in the second period. Neumann's Mike Gooch scored the first goal and Jesse Cole scored, off the face off, to tie the game at two less than a minute later. Brock Van Slyke and David Gooch were credited with the assist. Jared Allison helped Utica regain the lead at 13:26 when he scored his first of the night, giving Utica the 3-2 edge, at the end of the second period.

Allison scored the eventual game winner 7:29 into the third period after going one on one with Knights goaltender Mike Collichio. Less than a minute later after Dave Werner scored on a rebound shot for the 5-2 lead. Jeff Pappalardi and Allison were credited with the assist.

Neumann's Dayne Bihn scored the final goal of the night at the 10-minute mark but it was not enough to avoid the loss.

The Knights return to action on January 19 at 7:00 p.m. when they host Lebanon Valley College.
