Aston, Pa. - Neumann College saw a 2-1 lead slip away as PAC leader Misericordia University forced overtime with a breakaway goal in the 50th minute of play and had to settle for a 2-2 tie on Saturday afternoon.
The tie spoils Misericordia's (11-4-1, 7-0-1 PAC) perfect PAC season and may turn out to be a pivotal moment as the tie may give the Knights the edge for the final spot in the upcoming PAC Tournament with one conference and one non-conference game to play. Neumann now sits at 7-5-4 and 3-2-2 in the conference.
The Knights got a goal from Jesse Urquhart from 18 yards out after a foul was called on the Cougars in the ninth minute of play allowing Neumann to capitalize a take the 1-0 lead.
Misericordia knotted the game at 1-1 as Joey Scanlon assisted a Tyler Mensch goal in the 28th minute.
Less than 10 minutes later Neumann's Zach Sell scored the go-ahead goal to lift the Knights to a 2-1 lead. Knights' freshman Joe Avvento assisted on Sell's sixth goal of the season.
At the 50:33 mark Misericordia's Colin Hynes tied the game after going one-on-one with Knights starting goalkeeper Zack Ratliff, scoring a hard shot ball into the bottom left corner of the net, just out of reach of a diving Ratliff.
Neumann's Brett Fenimore kept the Knights in the game after taking over in goal with little over seven minutes left to play. Fenimore stopped two key shots on net to hold off the Cougars in the final minutes of overtime.
Prior to today's contest the Neumann Knights honored seniors Mike Barbagallo, Barry Harvey and Mitch Fryling for their hard work, determination and support of the men's soccer program in a pre-game ceremony.
Neumann will host Wesley College in a non conference match up on Wednesday before closing out PAC play next Saturday at Eastern University.
