Neumann Defeats Adrian, 3-2

In their first game of the 2007-2008 season the Neumann Knights women's ice hockey team (1-0) defeated Adrian College (2-0), 3-2, at the Ice Works Quad Rinks in Aston, PA.

The Knights and the Bulldogs battled shot for shot in the opening minutes of play as each goaltender proved they were ready for action. However, Neumann was able to slip one past Adrian goaltender Dana Trimm when Robyn Armstrong's slap shot from the top of the point found the back for the net at 3:54 for the 1-0 lead.  Carly Fitzsimmons was credited with the assist.

Adrian's Keegan Castrilllo answered for the Bulldogs at the 8:41 mark knotting the game at one all.

Team assistant captain Sam May showed speed and determination at the 7:32 mark when she scored her 31st career goal on a breakaway which put the Knights back on top going into the first intermission.

Jessica Schroeder gave the Knights a little insurance in the opening minutes of the second period when she hit the back of the net at the 4:03 mark. Schroeder's goal marks the first goal of her collegiate career as a Knight.

Neumann came out fighting in the third period winning the opening faceoff and taking two quick chances on net. The first came from Vicki Scott on the left and the second came from Jessica Schroeder who collected the rebound and took the second shot of the period from the right. Neumann continued to control the puck until 11:19 when Adrian was able to turn over the puck and capitalize on the moment. At 8:41Alysha Glenn scored from just in front of the left corner of the net closing the gap on the Knights.

The defensive efforts of Teresa White, who had 27 saves in net, kept the Knights alive in the final minutes of play.  Neumann outshot Adrian in the first two periods but Adrian fought hard in the third period ending the game with a 29-27 advantage in shots on the night.

These two teams will be back in action on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the final game of the weekend series at Ice Works in Aston, Pa.
