Doubles competition gave fans a glimpse of what was to come as all three courts were very close. Alvernia's Hannah Dickey and Jenny McKee defeated Rachel Coladonato and Allison Trout 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. However the Knights bounced back at No. 2 as the doubles team of Kayla Chamberlain and Michelle Steward defeated Janine Horning and Katie McCormack 8-5. Neumann's Lindsey Ravior and Courtney Hartel gave Neumann the lead heading into singles play with an 8-5 win over Heather Leader and Samantha Bader.

 

With the top three singles spots on the courts, Alvernia evened the score at 2-2 when Jenny McKee downed Katie Nell at 1^st-singles, 6-0, 6-0. Neumann fell behind 3-2 when Allison Trout lost 6-3, 6-1 at 2^nd-singles and despite winning the first set at 3^rd-singles, Michelle Steward lost the middle set in a tie breaker 6-7(8) which forced a third set tie breaker that would last the majority of the night.

 

Meanwhile the Knight's Lindsey Ravior won her match at 4^th-singles 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 and Kayla Chamberlain took 5^th-singles 6-4, 6-4. After their two matches were complete, Steward and Horning finally wrapped up their match 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-5) in favor of Alvernia tying the score at 4-all.

 

It all came down to 6^th-singles as Courtney Hartel and Katie McCormack came to the court at 8:00 p.m. With fatigue setting in and darkness upon them the two adversaries batted point for point. However, Hartel was able to gain the edge on her opponent clinching the victory for Knights for the third time this season.

 

"This was an all-time classic match, a match for the history books I would dare to say," stated Head Coach Christian Gosseaux. "These women played hard and had a lot of stamina tonight. I am so proud to be the coach of this team! They really stepped it up tonight and gave it all they had."

 

Neumann's record now stands at 6-5 and 4-1 in the PAC while Alvernia sees its season record slip to 4-4 and 3-3 in the PAC.
