BOX SCORE
Aston, Pa.- In a Saturday afternoon game at the Ice Works Arena the Neumann College women's ice hockey team (1- 4- 1, 0- 3- 1 EW) drew a 3-3 tie with the Bengals of Buffalo State (2- 2- 1, 1- 2- 1 EW). The Knights came back on two separate occasions to earn their first tie of the season.
Buffalo State started the scoring midway through the first period when Abbey Hubble found the net from the side of the crease giving the Bengals a 1-0 lead. Meghan Herald and Kelsey Truran each had an assist.
The Knights would answer with great goaltending from Teresa White, who made a series of tremendous saves providing the Knights with life and offensive speed from Tabatha Schury, who skated the length of the ice and ripped a shot glove side beating Buffalo State's goaltender Shannon Anesetti to tie the game, 1-1.
Neumann would take their first lead of the game on a two man advantage which Samantha May helped the Knights capitalize on after putting a shot on net which was deflected and reshot by Robyn Armstrong, who scored on the power play at the 17:40 mark, giving the Knights a 2-1 lead in the second period.
The Bengals managed to tie the game in the third period when Meghan Herald found a lose puck and slid it past White, tying the game at 2-2. Buffalo State would retake the lead just under the 10-minute mark in the third period when a shot from the blue line by Mariah Fairgrieve gave the Bengals a 3-2 lead.
The Knights responded within one minute of the Bengals' goal when Jessica Scroder skated through the Bengals defense beating the keeper one-on-one and tying the score at 3-3. Neither team could break the deadlock in the remaining seven minutes forcing a 5-minute overtime, a first for the Knights this season.
In overtime, both sides could not find the game winning goal and skated to a 3-3 tie.
Neumann will be back in action on Saturday, December 1 when they host Oswego State at 6:30 p.m.
