ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann Knights were not able to over come the Cavilers of Cabrini College in both team's Pennsylvania Athletic Conference opener. The Cavaliers 83.3 first half shooting percentage seemingly stifled Neumann's game. Although the Knights rallied from an eight point first-half deficit they were unable to get past Cabrini's offensive prowess.
The Cavaliers forced 10 turnovers to Neumann's 7 and hit 52.2% (12-of-23) of their field goals to take a 33-25 lead into halftime. In addition, Cabrini's Kate Walck was three-for-three from beyond the arc and the Cav's held Neumann at .40 from the field.
Coach Farnese settled the team over halftime and Neumann came out strong in the second half, showing more poise against Cabrini's press. They began turning the tables on the Cavilers forcing 13 total turnovers in the game. Despite this valiant effort, the Knights were unable to recover from an early second half 10-point deficit.
On a field goal from Brittany Whetts and two-free throws by Krista DiRomualdo, the Knights came within four with 2:18 left to play. However, the Knights wouldn't get any closer as Cabrini regained control of the ball and would not relinquish the lead.
DiRomualdo paced the Knights offense with 27 points on the day, while Whetts added 10 and Ashley Pearsall had 9 in the loss. Katie Young topped Knights rebounding, with six, while Coleen Healy claimed five.
The Cavaliers were led by Alyssa Brady's 15 point performance, while Kate Ryan, Deana DiAmico and Wakck added 11 apiece.
With the loss the Knights fall to 2-2 on the year and 0-1 in the PAC while Cabrini improves to 2-1 and 1-0 in the PAC.
