BOX SCORE

ASTON, Pa. - The second game of a weekend series was a hard fought battle between the Neumann Knights and the Flying Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College. Both sides accumulated a total of 135 penalty minutes but the Knights were able to overcome these setbacks and take home an important win with an overwhelming score of 14-6. The outcome of this game was a whole team effort as twelve Neumann Knights made scoring contributions.  Mike Collichio skated away with the win (9 saves, 1GA) but Jonathan Keating also put in a solid effort in his collegiate debut in net.

In the Saturday matinee game the Knights got off to an early start taking a 3-0 lead in the first period.  Jesse Cole's unassisted goal opened up the scoring for the Knights at 3:54 and Neil Trimm dodged past a slew of defenders and doubled the lead exactly one minute later.  Erik Stoyanvich (Casey, Van Vliet) added the Knights' third goal giving them a 3-0 advantage. Although Lebanon Valley added a goal late in first period, Mark Van Vliet (Hedden, Gooch) answered the Flying Dutchman's call with his own goal with only three seconds remaining in the first period of play. At the end of the first period of play Neumann led Lebanon Valley by a score of 4-1.

After a short intermission, Neumann continued the barrage of scoring in the second period with a total of six goals. The Knights jumped out to a 7-1 lead with three goals from Michael Hedden and one each from Neil Trimm (Van Vliet, Sjoberg), Mike Gooch (Hedden, Trimm,) and Stewart Sjoberg  (Cole, Gooch.) Lebanon Valley's Rob Scales provided slight relief with his goal at 9:45. The Knights then traded goals with the Flying Dutchman to end the period with a commanding 10-4 lead. Jonathan Keating stood strong in goal and tallied nine saves.

The final period of play was packed with penalties from both sides. Neumann's offense was relentless adding another four goals from Tyler Rivers (Gooch, Heickert), Stewart Sjoberg (Van Vliet, Slipacoff), Kyle Casey (Trimm) and Mark Van Vliet (Hedden.) Lebanon Valley was not able to mask their frustration as they were cited for their first of nine third period penalties after four and a half minutes of play. With only six minutes and fifteen seconds remaining in the game, a tired Lebanon Valley team allowed their emotions to get the best of them resulting in an exchange of pushes, shoves and jabs on the ice. Despite the Knight's efforts to retain their composer, five-minute major penalties were doled out to six players, three from each side.

For the weekend, the Knights skated away with 22 goals, 36 assists and only eight goals against. With these back to back conference wins, the Knights are now 8-4 overall and improve to 3-3 in the ECAC West. They are back in action at home on Friday night and 7:00PM for a non-conference match up against SUNY Fredonia.
