Aston, Pa - Neumann College (16-8, 10-5) was defeated by Cabrini College (17-7, 13-3) in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference match up on February 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the Bruder Gymnasium in Aston, Pennsylvania.
The first half started out slow for both teams. The Knights were causing turnovers early but couldn't get the baskets to take advantage. In the first ten minutes both teams were going back and forth until the Knights got hot. Neumann broke out after Syreeta Brown hits a rainmaker off a Brittany Whetts assist making the score 12 to 8. From there the Knights controlled the game and the score.
The Knights offense looked on point, but their defense was not holding their ground. With 5:30 left in the half Ashley Pearsall showed some fancy foot work in the hole and put up an amazing shot to give the Knights a ten point lead. Ashley Pearsall stepped up her game recording 6 points helping the Knights keep a safe lead in the closing minutes of the half. The Cavaliers started to make a run but the Knights offense was able maintain a comfortable lead.
With the final seconds ticking before the end of the half Kim Hinkle drained a field goal making the score 34 - 36 going into the final half of play.
The opening minute of the second half was sloppy with both teams turning the ball over. In the beginning of the half the Knights looked good, but the Cavaliers looked like a totally different team in the second half, shortening the Knights' lead early. The Cavaliers turned their game around quickly, taking the lead from the Knights and not giving it back.
Ashley Pearsall's 11 points and Dorothy Rozier's 9 points were not enough to keep the Knights on top. The Knights were unable to stop the Cavaliers' Kayleen Smith who scored 23 points. At the end of play the Knights lost 64 - 50.
The Knights will be hosting Immaculata University in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference game on February 15 at 6:00 at the Bruder Gymnasium in Aston, Pa.
