Elmira, NY- The Neumann Knights closed out regular season play today in a conference battle with Elmira College. Despite the 3-1 loss to the Soaring Eagles this afternoon the Neumann Knights will advance to the ECAC West Championship Tournament which will begin March 3, 2007 in Plattsburgh, New York.
"Offensively and defensively we played unbelievable today," said Head Coach Matthew Kennedy. "We dominated all three periods but just could not get the puck past Elmira's strong goal tending. Our defense played great holding the Soaring Eagles to just 23 shots on net. Offensively were able to keep things close receiving powerful efforts from Carly Fitzsimmons, Robyn Armstrong and Jenelle Marier."
Neumann trailed 2-0 at the end of the second period but pulled within one, 2-minutes into the third. The Knights made several attempts to overtake the lead but were denied by the Soaring Eagles who have clamed the second seed going into championship play. Elmira closed out scoring with a power play goal at 7:20.
Neumann will travel to SUNY Plattsburgh for the semifinal of the ECAC West Championship Tournament next weekend, March 3 & 4, 2007.
