Box Score
Aston, Pa. - Neumann College hosted Alvernia College in a PAC matchup in Aston, Pennsylvanian on Saturday afternoon. In their fourth conference series of the season Neumann swept the Crusaders 11-2 and 10-7.
The Knights got things started early in the second inning of the first game scoring eight runs which led them to a 11-2 win in Game One.
A 2-run homerun by Kristen Lawlor sparked an 8-hit, 8- run inning which proved to be more than the Knights would need to take game one. Starting pitcher Angela Sebasto pitched a complete five inning game, allowing only two runs on two hits.
The Knights opened the nightcap with stellar defensive play, shutting down Alvernia in order after starting pitcher Katie Kleztel struck out one and first basemen Jen Goslin and shortstop Angela Sebasto shutdown Alvernia's second and third hitters unassisted.
At the plate Neumann used six base hits to bring in the first two runs of the afternoon in the first inning and added four more runs in the second to take a commanding 6-0 lead over their visitors.
Katie Kletzel and the Knights shut down Alvernia in the second, third and fourth innings and entered the bottom of the fourth allowing only 3 hits and no runs.
Neumann then used a single by Chandra Moore, a sacrifice bunt by Kathleen Brooke and another single by Daniel Hays to extend their lead 10-0. However, Alvernia seemed to regroup in the fifth and six scoring 7 runs on 8 hits to close the gap on the Knights lead.
Fortunately Neumann was able to hold off the Crusaders due to the efforts of Angela Sebasto and Samantha Duncan who came in to relieve starting pitcher Katie Kletzel, who recorded her third win of the season, and Knights their fourth conference sweep of the season.
The Knight will return to the field on Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 against Ursinus College. First pitch is set for 2:30 pm.
