Gabby D'Ambrosio Breaks Game Scoring Record

Aston, Pa. -- The Neumann College Knights women's lacrosse team used a record breaking 8 goals scored by Gabby D'Ambrosio in a conference battle with ALvernia College but it wasn't enough as the Knights fell, 16-14, to the Crusaders in women's lacrosse action Thursday afternoon.

 

In the PAC battle, Neumann's Gabby D'Ambrosio led all players with eight goals breaking Neumann's game record for goals scored previously held by Samantha Lafferty (6). Alvernia's Lisa Ross paced the Crusaders with five goals. The victory improved Alvernia's record to 3-2, 2-2 PAC while Neumann dropped to 5-2, 3-2 PAC.

 

Alvernia opened the scoring sparking a 5-goal run before the Knights' Emily Kazaba found the net at 20:05 to put Neumann on the board 5-1. The two teams went goal for goal for the next four points. Neumann's Gabby D'Ambrosio scored her first of the day at 16:55 followed by Dominique Thompson who scored a free position shot and Emily Kazaba who added her second of the day to keep pace with the Crusaders. Alvernia ended the first half up 9-4 after scoring two consecutive goals late in the half.

 

In the second half Neumann's D'Ambrosio started things off scoring her second of the day at 29:25. Alvernia answered with four consecutive goals, extending their lead 13-5 at the 27 minute mark. Neumann answered with two of their own. The first was scored by Rachael DiCicco, assisted by Dominique Thompson and the second by D'Ambrosio of a pass from Kazaba.

 

In the final 20 minutes of play Neumann went of a scoring spree. The Knights brought the score within 2 after receiving goals from D'Ambrosio (5), Kerri Sinclair (1) and Dominique Thompson (1). However, it was not enough to overtake the Crusaders. The Knights fell short in the end 16-14.

 

Neumann goalkeeper Caitlin O'Shea made 18 saves after facing 34 Crusader shots. Alvernia goalie Janelle Fulmer recorded 13 saves while facing 27 Neumann shots.

 

Neumann will return action on April 10, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. when they will face off against Wesley College in Dover, Delaware.
