ASTON, Pa. - It was a long afternoon for the Neumann Knights as they faced off against 2006 PAC championship runner up Alvernia College on homecoming and lost 2-0.
Alvernia's offense was a force to be reckoned with as they took 11 shots in 70 minutes of play. Their defense also did well, holding the Knights to just four shots all day. Sophomore Lauren Hood (3) and Megan Mazur (1) had Neumann's only shots on net in the loss.
Alvernia's first goal came in the 32nd minute of the first half, as Christy Miller scored an unassisted goal to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead going into the second half. Miller then assisted on Alvernia's second goal of the day, scored by Dawn Beiswenger, in the 63rd minute of play.
With the 2-0 win, Alvernia improved to 8-2 overall and 5-0 in the PAC while Neumann fell to 6-5 and 4-1 in the PAC.
Senior goalie Chelsea Ward had eight saves in the loss.
Up next, the Knights will travel in search of their seventh win of the season, taking on DeSales University this Tuesday, October 2 at 4 p.m.
