Aston, Pa. - The Neumann women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a 8-1 victory over Philadelphia Biblical University Thursday afternoon in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. The Knights, who improve to 1-2 overall, won all three doubles matches before winning five times in singles. With the defeat, PBU falls to 0-2 on the season.
"This was a solid win for us," stated Head Coach Christian Gosseaux. " We moved some people around today and it seemed to work in our favor."
In doubles, the Knights' No. 1 team of Kayla Chamberlain and Michelle Steward won decisively in under 50 minutes, defeating their opponents, 8-1. The Knights' Allison Trout and Rachel Coladonato earned the team its second point at second doubles, 8-4. Newcomer Lindsey Ravior teamed up with veteran Courtney Hartel to complete a sweep in doubles action, 8-0.
In singles, the Knights lost the first match but won the final five matches in straight sets. Lindsey Ravior posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles while Kayla Chamberlain clinched the match for the Knights winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.
Steward finished off the No. 3 slot, 6-1, 6-1, recording her first career win as a Knight while Trout took the win at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Rounding out the day's winners was team captain Courtney Hartel who won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
Neumann is back in action Saturday, September 8 against PAC rival Marywood University. The Match is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
