Aston, Pa. -- Sophomore Caitlin Agnew (Little Flower/ Philadelphia, Pa.) hit a jumper with a minute remaining to lead the Neumann women's basketball team to an intense 71-70 win over Immaculata University on Thursday evening in Immaculata, Pa.
Agnew finished with 15 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the foul line while teammates Krista DiRomualdo (Archbishop Prendergast/Eddystone, Pa.) and Dominique Thompson (Conestoga/Wayne, Pa.) scored a game high 24 points each in the win.
The Knights found themselves down seven points at the half, 38-31, but returned to the court in the second half and pressured the Mighty Macs forcing their top two starting players, Jessica Gaburo and Courtney Dixon, to foul out midway through the half which enabled the Knights to take over and steal the win from the home team. Agnew scored the layup that put the Knights ahead, 71-69, with a minute left and the Knights defense was able to rebound a last second foul shot by the Mighty Macs to secure the victory.
With the win the Knights move to 11-6 overall and 6-2 in the PAC while Immaculata drops to 3-11 and 1-5 in the league. Neumann will continue its conference swing by hosting Gwynedd Mercy College in a PAC contest on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
