BOX SCORE

Aston, Pa. -- The Neumann Knights defeated the Cortland Red Dragons 5-2 at the Ice Works Arena on Friday night.  The Knights jumped out to a 4-0 lead behind two goals by Carolyn Fauteux and one each from Jessica Schroeder and Tabatha Schury which proved to be too much for the Red Dragons to answer.

With the win the Knights improve their unbeaten streak to 6 games (5-0-1) and are now 5-3-1 in the ECAC West Conference and 8-5-3 overall.

The Knights got on the board first when Carolyn Fauteux sent a wrist shot past the Cortland goaltender 4:09 into the game giving the Knights a 1-0 lead.

Neumann then would go up 2-0 on a power play goal by Jessica Schroeder.  Schroeder danced around a defender and put the puck into the back of the net giving her a team high 16 goals on the season. Seconds later, Tabatha Schury got a pass from Samantha May and scored her second of the year, giving the Knights a 3-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Carolyn Fauteux would give the Knights a 4-0 lead early in the second when she and Jessica Schroeder found themselves on a two on one and capitalized on the odd man rush.

Cortland though would respond when Erin Farmer converted on a late second period goal cutting the Knights lead to 4-1.

The Red Dragons then converted on a five on three power play opportunity scoring seconds into the third period of play cutting the score in half, 4-2.  Maggie Welker scored the power play goal for Cortland.

Neumann though would put the game out of reach with a power play goal from Robyn Armstrong who blasted a slap shot from the point with 3:22 remaining in the game.

The Knights will be back in action tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. to finish the weekend series against Cortland.
