GENESEO, N.Y. – The Neumann College men's ice hockey team opened its 2008-09 season with a 3-2 loss at SUNY-Geneseo Friday night.
Kyle Casey and Michael Hedden scored Neumann goals, both on the power play. Matt Ward added two assists.
The teams played to a scoreless first period before breaking out the scoring the second. Geneseo netted the first two goals of the period 6:51 and 9:48 into the period. Neumann got on the board as Casey scored on the power play at the 16:16 mark. Hedden netted his goal with 18 seconds remaining in the period to tie the game at two at the intermission.
With time winding down in the third period, Phil Rose scored the winning goal for Geneseo with just 54 seconds left in the game.
Ross MacKinnon made 25 saves in net for the Knights, including 14 in the third period Jeff Pasemko had 34 saves for Geneseo.
Neumann will face Geneseo again tomorrow in a 4 p.m. start.
