ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann College women's ice hockey team hosted the Toronto Rattlers in an exhibition game Friday night at Ice Works. The Knights came out victorious, 8-3.
Carly Fitzsimmons, Nicki Blazenko and Khristine Acosta each scored a pair of goals for the Knights. Fitzsimmons also had two assists. Jasper Thomson and Jessica Schroeder netted the remaining Neumann goals.
Brooke Legualt netted two goals for the Rattlers. Kendra Vliana added the third.
The Knights struck early as Blazenko scored just 58 seconds into the game. Thomson netted her scored her goal 2:37 into the game to give Neumann the early 2-0 lead.
Acosta netted her two goals 12 seconds apart early in the second period for a 4-0 Knights lead. Blazenko scored her second goal five minutes into the second period. Fitzsimmons added her two goals, one in the second and one in the third, for Neumann to take a 7-0 lead.
Toronto would get on the board when Vliana scored at the 7:41 mark of the third. Legualt netted the Rattlers second goal just over a minute later.
Schroeder would wrap up the Knights scoring with her goal at the 14:30 mark. Toronto's Legault would net her second goal 16 second later for the final 8-3 score.
Mel Brunet started the game for the Knights and made 12 saves in 30 minutes of play. Laura Keeley made 10 saves in the final half of the game. Sandy McClurg made 38 saves for the Rattlers.
The Rattlers are a junior traveling team based in Ontario, Canada. Neumann will begin its season on November 7 when it travels to R.I.T.
