GENESEO, N.Y. – The Neumann College men's ice hockey team won its first game in the young season, 4-3, over Geneseo Saturday afternoon.
Neumann comes home after its first road trip with a split, 1-1. The Knights also hand Geneseo its first loss of the season, 3-1.
Marlon Gardner netted a hat trick, including the game winning goal, and was named the first star in the game for Neumann. Kyle Casey notched two assists. Goalie Ross MacKinnon was named the third star with 43 saves in net.
Gardner scored his first two goals in the first period to lead Neumann to a 2-1 lead at the first intermission. Geneseo scored the only goals in the second period for a 3-2 lead.
Hedden scored the tying goal at the 10:22 mark of the third period. With time winding down, much like in last night's game, Gardner netted his third goal, off assists from Jeremy Gates and Casey, and lifted the Knights to the 4-3 win.
The game had a high shots-on-goal total with Geneseo notching 46 and Neumann with 33.
Neumann will travel to Adrian (Mich.) next weekend for a game on Saturday (7 p.m.) and one on Sunday (3 p.m.).
