SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann College men's soccer team scored two second-half goals and held on to earn a 2-0 win over Marywood University on Saturday afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match-up.
The Knights win snaps the Pacers five-game winning streak. Marywood is now 7-3 overall in 2-1 in the conference while Neumann improved to 3-6-2 and 1-0 in CSAC play.
The Knights would break through in the 55th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick after a foul was called on the Pacers inside their own box. Jesse Urquhart stepped up to the spot and drilled a low shot past the keeper's right side for the 1-0 lead.
Neumann got an odd-man break in the 82nd minute and Urquhart slid a ball across the top of the box to Chuck Rudolph who found the back of the net to give Neumann the 2-0 lead.
The Knights out-shot Marywood 12-7 and also had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Bob Mastrillo recorded three stops to pick up the shutout.
Neumann will travel to Widener on Wednesday for a non-conference match-up under the lights. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
