Dallas, PA.- The Neumann College men's basketball team traveled to match up against Misericordia University in the first round of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference's Championship Saturday afternoon.
Derahn Patrick (Chester High School) lead the Knights with 12 and Mike Hitchens (Abington) followed close behind with ten but, the story of the game was the Misericordia defense as the Cougars held Neumann to 28.6% shooting from the floor (14-49), including 25.9% in the second half.
Both teams struggled offensively throughout the first half and Neumann made a late surge to take a 20-18 halftime lead.
In the second half, Neumann struggled from the floor and the Cougars stretched the lead to 37-26 with just under eight minutes to play. Three different Cougars added points putting the game out of the Knights' reach.
Of the loss, Head Coach Mike Gallagher lamented, "In the first half, Neumann's defensive intensity was everything we try to preach. We had the Misercordia at the half. [They] limited our touches in the second half and we had to work for everything that we got."
The Knights finish the season 11-14 overall and 8-9 in the PAC.
