Immaculata, PA- The Lady Knights lacrosse team headed to play the Might Macs of Immaculata University today in their first Pennsylvania Athletic Conference match up. The Knights have had a difficult past week facing two very skilled teams both of whom were also very deep on the bench. Head Coach Sarah Kurpel finally had her entire team intact and saw excellent movement on both sides of the ball. When the final whistle blew, the Knights were on the winning side by a score of 16-7 with six Knights contributing goals.
Sarah Poynter (Baltimore, MD/Patapsco) opened the scoring for the Knights three minutes into the game on a free position shot. Immaculata quickly answered back with an unassisted goal from Claire Lichty. Neumann would go on to score six goals as a reply, taking the lead for the rest of the game. In the second half, Immaculata would go on a little run of their own putting three on the board but Neumann would add four more of their own.
On the outing, the Knights recorded 16 goals: Gabby D'Ambrosio finished with 6 goals and 1 assist for seven points, a season high. Rachel DiCicco (South Dennis, NJ/Middle Township) had four goals and College Finnegan (Pear River, NY/Pearl River) had three. Emily Glackin (Peachbottom, PA/Lancaster Catholic), Sarah Poynter and Dominique Thompson (Wayne, PA/Conestoga) each had one each.
The win today puts the Knights at 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Neumann College Women's Lacrosse team will meet up with the Centenary College Cyclones on Thursday, March 13th for their home opener.
Go Knights!
