Scranton, PA - Neumann was unable to break past a 5-5 halftime deadlock when Marywood scored four times in the third quarter. Despite their valliant effort, the visiting Neumann College was scoreless in the period and the Pacers held on to notch a 10-8 victory in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Neumann's record slips to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Neumann took a 1-0 lead with a goal from Justin Mailloux (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) extra-man goal 2:10 into the contest, but the Pacers responded with three goals in the next 2:28 as Andrew Harman tied the score before Ryne Boyle netted a pair for Marywood.
Matt Toth (Coatsville, PA/Coatsville) brought the Knights within one with 7:53 to play in the opening frame, but the Pacers found the back of the net to give Marywood a 4-2 lead.
The Knights would rally from two goals down to tie the score at 5-5 going into halftime as Kyle Gardner (Collegeville, PA/Moravian) and Kevin Kelly (Broomall, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) each scored in the final 4:32 of the opening half after Kyle Sheckler (Glenolden, PA/Interboro) and the Pacer's Brian Roerden traded goals earlier in the period.
Marywood would come out inspired after halftime and reclaimed the lead just under three minutes into the third quarter. The Pacers combined went on a 4-0 scoring streak in the third and he Knights did not respond until the following period when Scheckler and Gardner brought Neumann to within two with goals. Marywood converted for the third time on the afternoon with the extra-man and also another Brian Roerden goal.
Toth closed out the scoring by tallying unassisted with 23 seconds to play and the Knights a man down. Jake Boulay took the loss for Neumann despite making 18 saves.
Neumann will match up with conference foe Centenary College Monday, April 7th for a 4:00pm start.
