Volleyball falls to Pacific University in season opener

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Neumann College volleyball team travelled to Pacific University to participate in the Boxer Kickoff Volleyball Invitational in Forest Grove, Oregon.  The Knights were invited to this well known tournament after winning their first conference championship last season.  Neumann will look to take on the host team as well as a couple national powers in  University of Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran University. UPS is ranked 7th while PLU is ranked 14th according to the latest AVCA poll.

In first round competition the Knights fell to Pacific University 3 games to 1.  Each game was competitive but the Knights found themselves on the short of the match losing the first two sets 25-20 before winning the third set 25-23.  In the fourth set the Knights fell again 25-20.

Senior setter Kristen Verone recorded 33 assists continuing to add to her school record for assists.  Senior Rachel DiMichele played fantastic defense helping keep the Knights close in the match while sophomore Ashley Mathis landed several excellent kills to pace the Knights offensively.

The Knights will play UC Santa Cruz as their next opponent in this tournament on Saturday afternoon.  Neumann falls to 0-1 on the year.
