ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann College men's ice hockey team blanked visiting Western New England, 8-0, Saturday night in non-conference play.
Marlon Gardner netted yet another hat trick in his young career, finishing the night with three goals and an assist. Jesse Cole scored two goals and notched three assists. Erik Stoyanovich had a goal and two assists for three points. Mike Hedden, Donovan Hall, Kyle Casey and Jeremy Gates all had two assists.
Matt Ward scored the only goal in the first period on the power play from Casey and Hedden.
The Knights scored five goals in the second period to put the game away. Gardner scored his first goal on a 5-on-3 from Gates and Stoyanovich. Brock Van Slyke netted a goal 23 seconds later on the power play from Cole and Stoyanovich. Cole put the puck in the net from Gardner and Ryan Heickert. Stoyanovich netted a goal on the power play from Hall and Cole and Gardner rounded out the second period with a goal from Cole and Nick Lapierre.
Cole netted his second goal of the game at the 1:47 mark of the third period. Gardner completed his hat trick at the 10:35 mark to make the score 8-0.
Ross MacKinnon made 12 saves in net for the Knights. Neumann held Western New England 0-for-9 on the power play. The Knights are now 10-6-1 on the season. Neumann will travel to Elmira on January 23-24 for ECAC West play. The Knights are 4-2-1 in conference action this season.
