NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Neumann College and Cabrini College women's basketball teams faced-off at Madison Square Garden this afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Cabrini won the game, 47-40.
Brittany Whetts led the Knights with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Krista DiRomualdo scored nine points. Katie Young pulled down 10 boards.
Kate Ryan led the Cavaliers with 10 points. Alyssa Brady and Brittany McLeod each grabbed 11 rebounds.
Whetts scored the first basket off the game, but that was the only time Neumann would lead in the game. The Knights were held to just four points in the 10 minutes of the game as the Cavaliers built an 11-4 lead. Neumann would climb back within one on a Stephanie Fanto three-pointer to make the score 13-12. Cabrini ended the half on a 7-2 run to take a 20-14 at halftime.
The Cavaliers built their lead to up 13, 31-18, at the 12:44 mark of the second half. The Knights scored seven consecutive points, a three-pointer by Nicole Feby, a lay-up by Katie Young and two free throws by Whetts, to come within four, 40-36 with just under three minutes left, but Neumann could not get any closer and fell 47-40.
Neumann is now 9-7 on the season, 4-3 in the conference. Cabrini is 12-3 and a remains a perfect 7-0 in the CSAC. The Knights travel to Philadelphia Biblical on Tuesday night for CSAC action. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
