Women's Ice Hockey Comes Up Short Against Trinity

BOSTON, Mass. – The Neumann College women's ice hockey team opened its 2009 part of the schedule with a 6-5 loss to Trinity College at the Codfish Bowl hosted by UMass-Boston Monday afternoon.

 

Jessica Schroeder and Jasper Thomson each netted two goals for the Knights. Kayla Dubowski had three assists while Khristine Acosta and Niki Blazenki added two assists each.

 

Trinity scored the games first goal at the 7:07 mark of the first period. Schroeder netted her first goal five minutes later to tie to score.

 

Trinity netted three goals in the second period while Neumann scored one, by Thomson, as Trinity took a 4-2 lead into the third period.

 

Carly Fitzsimmons cut Trinity's lead to one, 4-3, two minutes into the third. Trinity answered with two goals to take a 6-3 advantage. Schroeder scored her second goal with five minutes left and Thomson netter her second goal with 33 seconds remaining with the goalie pulled, but the Knights could not get the game-tying goal.

 

Mel Brunet made 33 saves in net as Neumann is now 5-5 on the season.

 

Neumann will face the loser of the UMass-Boston/Oswego game tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. The Knights return home this weekend to host Sacred Heart on Friday and Saturday nights. The puck is set to drop for both games at 7 p.m.
