GENEVEA, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team tied Hobart College, 5-5, Saturday evening in an ECAC West Contest.
Jake Kratz netted the first two goals of his collegiate career and added an assist. Jeffrey Bienvenue added three assists. Marlon Gardner scored a goal and an assist and William Lacasse had two assists.
Down 5-4 in the final minute, the Knights pulled goaltender Ross MacKinnon. Mat Valois scored his fourth goal of the season with 23 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 5-all. That would end up being the game-tying goal as the teams played a scoreless overtime period.
Hobart scored two power play goals in the first period. Kratz scored for the Knights in between the Statesmen goals for a 2-1 score after one.
David Gervais scored for the Knights to tie the game at two 48 seconds into the second period. Gardner and Kratz added power play goals in the second for Neumann. Hobart netted two goals and the teams went into the second intermission knotted at four.
Hobart took a 5-4 lead with 2:44 left on the clock in the third period. Valois would then score with 23 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
The game featured a lot of shots. Hobart had 49 while the Knights notched 41. MacKinnon made 44 saves in net.
Neumann returns home next Friday after three weekends on the road. The Knights will host Utica on Friday night and Manhattanville on Saturday. The ECAC West games will begin at 7 p.m. both nights.
