ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team defeated Clarkson in the consolation game of the Rinso Marquette Tournament, hosted by Lebanon Valley College, Saturday afternoon.
Cecily Scavicchio led the Knights with 15 points. Brittany Whetts notched her third double-double in four games with 13 points and 13 assists. Bethany Humenik scored 12 points while Sami Borcky added 10 points. Katie Young grabbed 17 boards.
The beginning of the first half was a tight game. Neither team did not have more than a five point lead and there were five tie scores. The fifth tie was 23-all with 1:23 left in the first half and the Knights went on an 11-2 run to end the half. Nicole Feby topped the run off with a three-pointer with two seconds on the clock.
Krista DiRomualdo opened the second half for Neumann with a three-pointer to put the Knights up by 10. Neumann did not relinquish the double-digit lead in the second half. The Knights would build its lead up to 25 points two times during the second.
Humenik was named to the All-Tournament team for her consistent play during the two games.
Neumann (2-2) will travel to Widener University on Wednesday for a non-conference match-up. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
