Women's Ice Hockey Wraps Up 2009 with Win

MIDDLETON, Conn. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey defeated Wesleyan College, 6-1, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game.

 

Jessica Schroeder dished out three assists. Brittany Metcalfe, Nicole Alexopoulos and Kayla Dubowski all scored a goal and an assist. Nicki Blazenko added two assists. Shannon Donnelly made 11 saves in 54 minutes of work en route to the win. Amanda Houck made one save in the final six minutes.

 

After playing to a scoreless first period, Lynsey Nakamura scored her first goal 4:36 into the second period to five the Knights the lead. Diane Peters made the game 2-0 and Neumann went into the second intermission with a two goal advantage.

 

Neumann scored four goals in the third period, three on the power play, to seal the win. Holly Williams increased the lead to 3-0 2:23 into the period. Metcalfe, Alexopoulos and Dubowski all netted power play goals when Neumann had a five minute man advantage.

 

The Knights improves to 5-5-1 on the season. Neumann will take a break over the holiday and be back in action on January 9 when it travels to Manhattanville for a non-conference game.
