ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell to No. 19 Moravian College, 88-80, Wednesday evening in non-conference action.
Neumann's offensive was led by Brittany Whetts who netted 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Katie Young had 19 points on the night, six assists and five rebounds. Bethany Humenik added 11 points.
Moravian was led by Kate Harrison with 20 points and eight rebounds while Kirsty Stearns who had 20 points and six rebounds. Alyssa Bisci scored 15 points and Jessica Foran added 13.
In the first half, the teams exchanged the lead four times. Neumann took the largest lead of the half, 24-16, at the 8:18 mark. The Greyhounds closed the led down to one with 53 seconds remaining in the half. The Knights took a 37-36 advantage at the half.
The Greyhounds opened the second half on an 8-2 run to take a 44-39 advantage. The Knights continued to struggle shooting and let Moravian take control of the game. Moravian quickly took the lead in the second half and extended it to 19 points with just over two minutes remaining. However, the Knights would not go away and began to chip away at the Greyhounds led.
In the final two minutes of regulation, Neumann held Moravian to just two points. Young hit two free throws before Sami Borcky sank a lay-up and free throw for three points. Humenik hit a jumper with 49 second left to make the score 88-74. The Knights then drained two three-pointers in the final ten second, but time ran out on the comeback effort.
The women's basketball team with be back in action on January 2nd at the Gettysburg Tournament. The Knights will face host Gettysburg at 8 p.m.
