Women's Basketball Falls to Top-Seed Cabrini

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann College women's basketball team was lost to Cabrini College, 74-61, Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.  

 

For Neumann, Brittany Whetts had the team-high 21 points with 15 rebounds. Sami Borcky also netted 11 points with six rebounds.

 

Deana DiAmico led the Caverliers with 19 points. Brittany McLeod also put up 16 points and 11 rebounds.  Kate Ryan netted 11 points. Kate Walck and Kayleen Smith both scored 10 points.

 

The Knights started the first half strong and took a six point lead six minutes in, capped by a basket from Whetts. Cabrini took its first lead of game 14 minutes in, 12-11, by a layup from Nikki Duggan. The teams traded points for rest of the half, keeping the score within four points. Whetts made two foul shots to put the Knights ahead of Cabrini, 28-26, going in to the half.

 

Four minutes into the second half, the teams tied for the eighth time in the game. Afterwards, Cabrini scored the next 10 points over two minutes to take a 44-34 lead.  Cabrini never let the Knights regain momentum by keeping a double-digit lead for rest of the game.

 

Cabrini sweeps the season series, and improves to 19-4, 14-1 CSAC.  The Knights are now 15-8, 10-4 CSAC.

 

Neumann will travel to College of Notre Dame on Monday for a CSAC contest. The Knights beat Notre Dame, 74-55, in a meeting earlier this season at home. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
