GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann College women's basketball team fell to Gwynedd-Mercy College, 76-68, Wednesday night in a Colonial States Athletic Conference semifinal contest.
Brittany Whetts scored 30 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the Knights. Jordan Elgart netted eight points.
Kristy Camp led the Griffins with 20 points. Lauren Rosar netted 17 points and 13 rebounds. Kate Wisniewski added 14 points. Jackie Dooley grabbed 11 rebounds.
Gwynedd-Mercy took their largest lead of the first half of nine points, 26-17, with 8:01 remaining on the clock. Neumann attempted to chip its way into the nine point Griffin advantage. Whetts hit a lay-up and netted two free throws in the final minute of the first half and GMC took a four point lead, 37-33, into halftime.
The Knights scored the first six points to take a two point lead early in the second half. Caitlin Agnew gave Neumann its final lead with two free throws at the 9:57 mark. A minute later, a three-pointer by Wisniewski put GMC back up for good, 51-50. Over the next three and a half minutes, the Griffins outscored the Knights 12-4 for a 63-54 lead. The deficit was too much for Neumann to make up.
Neumann finishes CSAC play with an 18-9 record.
