ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann College women's basketball team defeated Rosemont College, 54-41, Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
For Neumann, freshman guard Cecily Scavicchio had the team-high 11 points, with sophomore Krista DiRomualdo and junior Caitlin Agnew each netting 10 points. Brittany Whetts had a team-high 11 rebounds.
Vanessa Johnson led the Ramblers with team-high 15 points and seven rebounds. Christa Bednarek and Karen Boyle each netted nine points. Adriann Demchenko led the team with 10 rebounds.
The Knights took an eight point lead, 8-0, 7:43 into the game before Rosemont netted its first basket of the afternoon. The Ramblers came within three points, 19-16, with 2:41 remaining in the half, but Neumann held them off and maintained its lead, taking a 21-16 advantage at the break.
Rosemont came out firing in the second half and at the 4:13 mark, Karen Boyle shot a three-pointer to put Rosemont ahead of Neumann for the first time in the game, 22-21. Agnew hit a lay-up, was fouled and made the free throw to put the Knights back up by two. Two free throws by Johnson netted the game at 24-all. Scavicchio then hit two-of-two from the line and the Knights did not relinquish their lead again. Neumann took a commanding 10 point lead with 9:26 remaining in the game. Neumann finished the game strong and won by 13 points.
Neumann collectively had 13 steals and 40 rebounds, out matching Rosemont.
The Knights swept the season series with Rosemont. Neumann will travel to Gwynedd-Mercy College on Monday for a CSAC contest. The Knights fell to the Griffins, 64-57, in a meeting earlier this season. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
