ASTON, Pa – The Neumann men's tennis team won their last home match on a high note. The Knights defeated Division II opponent Chestnut Hill College, 7-2, this afternoon in non-conference action. The team also wore pink and orange wristbands for breast cancer and leukemia awareness. This was the last home match for our two seniors Steve Klenk and Radek Foukal.
"Today's match was our last home match for our two seniors, Steve Klenk and Radek Foukal. Both young men have represented the Neumann program extremely well over the last four years. Their leadership has helped our team grow into a Championship Program." said Coach Goose.
Neumann took two of three doubles point. The team of David Pfister and Brian Crispin battled to beat Steve Hlava and Julius Twyman 8-4. Dan Harnos and Chris Brown fell to Carson Richter and Adrian Avena, 8-4. The senior duo of Steve Klenk and Radek rolled past Reese Brown and Albert Council 8-1.
The Knights continued their victories in singles with Pfister topping Twyman 6-1, 6-2. Brown clinched the win for Neumann defeating Avena, 6-2, 6-4, putting the Knights up 5-1. Crispin fell to Richter, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 10-4. Bridgeman defeated in two sets Hlava, 6-3, 7-5. Harnos won over Council, 6-3, 6-0. Klenk rounded out the win for the Knights, winning over Reese Brown, 6-0, 6-0.
The win boosts the Knights to 16-3 record so far this season.
Coach Goose stated, "Today's win was an extremely important match for us. Chestnut Hill is a solid team and this match will help us in our preparartion toward the NCAA Tournament. This match was also our opportunity to raise awareness and show our support for Breast Cancer Awareness. Our team wore pink wristbands as part of our support."
They team will travel to Mahwah, NJ to compete against Ramapo College on Saturday. The match is slated to start at 12:30 p.m. This will be the last match for the Knights before they head to the NCAA tournament on May 8th, to a place and opponent which is still to be determined.
