GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann College men's tennis team defeated Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Gwynedd-Mercy College, Wednesday afternoon in a conference match up. Both teams came into CSAC competition undefeated. The win boosted the Knights to 13-3 overall, 6-0 in the CSAC. The Knights clinched first place going into playoffs and they will face the fourth place finisher in the conference.
Neumann got off to a quick start by capturing all three doubles points. David Pfister and Brian Crispin served their way to defeat Scott Campbell and Eric Trinkle, 8-5. Chris Brown and Dan Harnos topped Lou Vessels and Jared Morgan, 8-2. Greg Bridgeman and Steve Klenk won, 8-2, over Ryan Murray and Chris Keown.
The Knights won in straight sets all six singles matches. Pfister was solid at No. 1 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Campbell. Brown battled to win the first set, and defeated Morgan, 7-5, 6-4. Locking up the victory for the Knights was Crispin at third singles, who earned 6-2, 6-2, victory over Trinkle. Bridgeman handled Vessels 6-2, 6-0. Harnos battled from behind in both sets to defeat Murray 7-5, 6-3. Klenk won over Keown, 8-2.
Coach Goose stated, “Gwynedd-Mercy is a very tough team and we knew this was going to be very competitive match. I am extremely proud of our team in finishing first in the regular season, but the bigger challenge awaits us in the conference playoffs.”
The Knights return to action next Tuesday, when they travel to Ramapo College. The match is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
