ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team and Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Keystone College were very well matched tonight, with neither team gaining a significant advantage until the Knights pulled away midway through the second half. Neumann defeated Keystone, 78-63, picking up their second conference victory.
Brittany Whetts led Neumann's offense with 21 points on the night. Sami Borcky added 12 points in the victory. Jordan Elgart contributed 11 points and Nicole Feby provided another 10 points for the Knights. The Giants were led by Ellen Fallon who had 29 points and 11 rebounds.
A Whetts lay-up with less than eight minutes remaining, gave the Knights the largest lead of the first half, a 24-15 advantage. The Giants took a two point lead, but Borcky hit two from the foul line with 27 seconds remaining to tie the game at 29 at the end of the half.
The teams saw five ties at the start of the second half before either team built a large lead. Neumann went on a 14-4 run with eleven minutes remaining in regulation, taking a 62-51 advantage. Krista DiRomualdo sank a lay-up with 2:41 remaining giving Neumann an 18 point lead, 74-56, their largest lead of the night. The Giants tried chipping away at the Knights lead, but time expired before they could pull within reach.
The Knights (7-4, 2-0 CSAC) will host Rosemont on Thursday for Knight Fever at the Mirenda Center. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. followed by then men's game. There will be a student section, give aways and competitions! Come out and start the semester by supporting your fellow Knights!
