ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball picked up their second consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) win against Rosemont College, 72-53.
Brittany Whetts led the Neumann, recording a double-double, with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Nicole Feby netted 12 points in the contest.
Rosemont College had two players in double figures on the evening. Kate Clarkson led the Raven's with 16 points, while Ashley Montecchio contributed 10 points.
Neumann quickly opened up an 11 point lead against Rosemont within the first five minutes of play. The Ravens scored nine unanswered points to cut the Knights advantage to 14-12 mid-way through the first half. A Feby three-pointer with 6:46 left in the first half capped a Knights 17-4 run, extending the lead to 33-16. Neumann took a 39-25 lead into halftime.
At the start of the second half the Knights continued to extend their lead. Cecily Scavicchio drained a three-pointer with 9:10 remaining in regulation to give Neumann their largest lead on the night, 22 points, taking a 59-37 advantage. Rosemont's Clarkson netted seven points with two and a half minutes remaining in regulation, cutting Neumann's lead to 67-53. Neumann held Rosemont scoreless for the remainder of the game, improving to 9-4, 4-0 CSAC, with the 72-53 victory.
Neumann will look to remain perfect in the CSAC as it travels to Centenary College on Saturday afternoon for another conference match-up. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m., followed by the men at 3 p.m.
